Today Zeke’s PIV and central line were both failing and an ultrasound revealed that he has clots in his legs. This thrombosis is not what we want at all but the nature of Ezekiel’s new physiology does not allow them to insert any iv lines in his upper extremities. This leaves the legs as the only point of access. Once more it’s been a day of trusting the Lord with all the limitations present and hoping for the correct course of action to be taken. Zeke ended up getting a picc line in his left leg, the same leg with the arterial line. The push right now is to get the art line out of his leg as it’s starting to fail. Please pray that this picc does not fail and lasts till the wean of his meds are done. And that the blood clots do not cause significant issues.
His weans were paused as he’s been experiencing withdrawal. Tomorrow they will try to restart the dexmedetomidine wean. He is off all inotropic medication which is a huge step in the right direction.
His extubation is on pause for now as they allow him a bit of a break with all that he has had to adjust to in the past 24 hours. He is on lower pressures which is encouraging but not enough yet to extubate.
I had a sweet sister encourage me with this scripture and it helped me continue to anchor myself in the truth of God’s care as we entrust Zeke to him.
Psalm 73:23-28
[23] Nevertheless, I am continually with you;
you hold my right hand.
[24] You guide me with your counsel,
and afterward you will receive me to glory.
[25] Whom have I in heaven but you?
And there is nothing on earth that I desire besides you.
[26] My flesh and my heart may fail,
but God is the strength of my heart and my portion forever.
[27] For behold, those who are far from you shall perish;
you put an end to everyone who is unfaithful to you.
[28] But for me it is good to be near God;
I have made the Lord GOD my refuge,
that I may tell of all your works.
