Inching Closer to Surgery
It’s been a while since the last entry. We transitioned home well and have enjoyed being together as a family. The kids have doted on their little brother and loved spending time with him every minute he’s awake. As part of the condition of continued care from afar for Zeke, we’ve made a couple of trips to Sick kids for cardiology clinics and echocardiograms as well as Sudbury for pediatric check ups. The road travel has been difficult but God has given us the grace to manage it all.
The last visit to Toronto in June has revealed that Ezekiel‘s oxygen saturation levels are beginning to drop. Which is an indication for the cardiologists that his BT shunt is coming to the end of its life. This has led to the next steps in preparing him for his second major surgery. This involves an MRI and a Cath Lab to test his heart to see if he’s ready to handle the type of open-heart surgery that is required to repair his heart. This appointment is scheduled for July 27. Please be in prayer for us for this particular appointment. Our hope is that Zeke has grown to be a strong little boy who is able to handle the surgery that is before him. We sent out a consult to Boston Children’s Hospital to get a second opinion on the type of surgery that Zeke will need to help repair his heart. There are two options, single ventricle approach or biventricle approach. The latter is contingent on Ezekiel‘s anatomy. If he does not have the anatomy for the surgeons to attempt the biventricle repair then he will have to go to single ventricle route. However, if both options are before us the decision needs to be made as to what will be the best outcome for him. Please pray for wisdom for the surgeons at sick kids, for the cardiologists at Boston Children’s hospital who will review his information as well as for us as parents as we have to make the decision as to what type of surgery he will have. In all of this our hope is for a better outcome for Ezekiel and we continue to trust the Lord as he leads and guides us and all of the medical staff involved. We are so grateful for the continued support love and prayers and ask for you to once again join with us in prayer as we enter the next phase of his journey.
